despite countless attempts for almost one hundred years no chamber of congress has ever passed a comprehensive health reform bill. until now!! late last night the house of representatives passed a health insurance reform bill. well, the bill isn't perfect but it is a start.
the good news is the bill guarantees everyone affordable, quality health care, it reins in the abusive practices of the insurance company, and it provides public health insurance options. the bad news is the anti-choice forces were up to their usual shenanigans and at put in an anti-choice amendment (but hopefully this can be eliminated in the final bill).
yeah!!! to borrow one of friend reya's favorite expressions, onwards and upwards!!

Wow, who'd a thunk it? Hat off to the Prez...
Not out of the woods yet. Check out this morning's news programs i.e. Face the Nation and Meet the Press. This thing still has to get through the Senate.
First hurdle passed. On to the next one.
Congrats from this side of the pond.
yes, as cg so astutely points out, we still have to get a bill through the senate! but, it is a START and a very positive and hopeful one at that!
yeah team!!
Now on to the Senate. . .
Good news indeed. Hope the Senate are amenable to change.
congratulations this is wonderful! And on a selfish note it is good news to us Canadians who are being threatened with the dismantling of our Healthcare system...and the dismantlers always hold up your system as one to aim for!
Great news, I was beginning to think that this President was all talk. As you say probably only a start, let's face it, the devil will be in the detail but universal access to affordable health care is a great first step.
Yea!
funny that this thing has taken most of a century to get this far...still, will we get it right? Fingers crossed.
Money for Wars that a country never has, and will have to be paid for by future generations, but help the people of the country who work hard to pay all the taxes they're expected to?
That those in DC that are against it, receive it, still boggles my mind.
What a concept.
Here's hoping something comes of it!
Great news. Greetings and solidarity from all your fellow believers in an equitable healthcare system.
